Frankincense tears are the dried gum resin harvested from the tropical Boswellia Thurifera tree, in the Boswellia carteri species native to Arabia, India, and Northern Africa. The tears are obtained by cutting into the trunk of the tree and allowing its milky resin sap to harden to be harvested by hand. It takes between 8 and 10 years for these small, thorny, shrub-like trees to mature before the resin can be harvested.
USE: Burned over hot charcoal bricks to emit its fragrance as incense.
